We are excited to announce that the Networking and Telecommunications Team has received the CIO 100 Award for their Campus Network Building Refresh Project! This esteemed award is given to 100 organizations that have successfully executed an innovative IT initiative, significantly enhancing business processes and customer relationships.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Over the past 5 years, the Networking and Telecommunications Team embarked on a mission to refresh the networking equipment across the 50 UTD main campus and satellite buildings. Updating the system with additional capacity and features allows UTD to meet the growing demands of being a Tier 1 research institution.

PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS

Through this project the team was able to reduce active switch port counts by 65%, which reduced the risk profile for the network. In addition, they saw a large reduction in people needing assistance on low-level issues allowing the team to address concerns more efficiently. With this update to the networking equipment in place, the Network uptime increased by 27%, ensuring the computer network remained operational and available for use. By maximizing uptime, the teams ensured seamless service to campus. Thanks to the project’s success, UTD is running better than ever!
