UT Dallas External Phone Calls

OIT is aware of an issue affecting some external calls to the University to be disconnected and is working with Microsoft for a solution. Calls to our Service Desk are functioning normally. We will provide additional details as they become available.

Software- Student Technology Initiative

The Office of Information Technology has obtained multiple software site licenses to ensure students have the tools they need for their coursework. The listed software products are supported by OIT and are recommended for all students.

Both Windows and Mac: OneDrive cloud storage (1TB) is another (free) option that can be accessed through o365.utdallas.edu.
Security: Avoiding malware is an important topic for everyone using a computing device, regardless of the operating system.

Windows 10: Windows Security is enabled by default; no additional software or configuration is necessary. Learn more about Windows Security. It’s important to install Windows updates on regular basis to keep Windows Security up to date.
macOS: Avast Software offers a free comprehensive security suite for Mac. More information and a download link may be found at Avast’s website.
Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Presentation, & Collaboration Software:Microsoft Office 365

UT Dallas students can download Office 365 (including Microsoft Teams) for free for Windows or Mac by following these instructions.
Online Storage:As part of the Office 365 package, students will have access to OneDrive for file syncing and storage.

Note: While OIT provides support for the software packages listed above, certain issues may be referred to an outside vendor (including operating system repair). Please note that there is no affiliation whatsoever to OIT with these Service locations and users can choose to seek laptop repair from anywhere else not referred.

Other Student Applications

  • Matlab – A multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and proprietary programming language developed by MathWorks. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages.
  • Mathematica – Mathematica is a modern technical computing system spanning most areas of technical computing — including neural networks, machine learning, image processing, geometry, data science, visualizations, and others. The system is used in many technical, scientific, engineering, mathematical, and computing fields.
  • think-cell – Do you use PowerPoint to present in your classes? If so, think-cell might save you a significant amount of working time and enable you to create professional looking presentations for your coursework. Knowing think-cell could be a valuable skill as you enter the workplace since many employers use the software.
  • eLearning & Blackboard Collaborate Ultra – Learning Management System for UT Dallas
  • Fusion – Accessibility tool for individuals with any level of vision impairment.
  • JMP – JMP is a suite of computer programs for statistical analysis developed by the JMP business unit of SAS Institute.
  • Azure Dev Tools for Teaching – Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching is a Microsoft program that allows eligible students, faculty and staff to download and install fully-licensed versions of certain Microsoft programs onto their personal computers for educational purposes.
  • Galaxy – Access to application status, academic records, financial aid and tuition/fees for applicants, students, faculty and staff
