UT Dallas External Phone Calls
OIT is aware of an issue affecting some external calls to the University to be disconnected and is working with Microsoft for a solution. Calls to our Service Desk are functioning normally. We will provide additional details as they become available.
Learning Management Systems
The Learning Management Systems (LMS) team is responsible for maintaining the technical side of distance learning software solution for UT Dallas. The team ensures that system availability for a 24/7 basis.
About the LMS
Blackboard Learn 9.1 SaaS is the distance learning software used by UT Dallas to offer distance learning courses.
The LMS group offers custom tools including:
- Gradebook Integration – Allows faculty to post grades from Blackboard to PeopleSoft
- Merge Courses Tool – Allows faculty to combine multiple courses into a single courseroom
- Photo Roster – Displays the headshots (where permission was given) of students. Instructors can print the roster.
How to Submit a Work Request Ticket
All requests for modifications, changes to existing processes, or data feeds should be initiated with a JIRA Work Request Ticket. Upon submission of the ticket, the customer(s) will be contacted by an OIT staff member. The approval process for requests includes review and prioritization by the Digital Transformation Group.

Blackboard Develop
- Designs and develops building blocks, REST APIs and LTI solution.
- Maintains interfaces between UTD and Blackboard.
- Troubleshoots issues raised by functional business owners.
System Administrator Roles
- Ensures all products including Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Collaborate, Blackboard Ally are functioning on a daily basis.
- Oversees all products updates including scheduling, testing and monitoring updates.

- Manage data delivered from PeopleSoft.
- Campus Solutions and HCM.
- Customize solutions to improve delivery of course, course enrollments to users.
Third-Party/Custom Integrations
- Identify solutions to integrate Blackboard content.
- Create, test and manage integration.
LMS Analytics
- Identify user data for gaps and areas of focus.
- Provide analysis of course and student use of LMS products.
- Support Office of Research requirements for data.
LMS Research
- Technical research/development to enable continuing innovation.
